All Scandia 700 Series models have been designed around the principle of continuous, progressive, rotary motion.

A carton that enters the machine will complete the overwrapping cycle without the need of successive cartons.

Scandia pioneered the 3 fundamental principles of high speed overwrapping: single level package flow, continuous rotary motion and vertical material feed.

Now they’ve applied servo automation to their proven design, with an 8-axis servo overwrapper using servo modules from Schneider Electric’s ELAU Packaging Solutions.

The servo modules control film feed, tear tape feed, rotary knife, product infeed conveyor, outfeed conveyor, main turret axis, sealing platens and tucker.

The distinctive servo modules combine motor and drive, saving substantial electrical cabinet space while vastly simplifying wiring and installation.

The carton is presented to the machine by an Automatic Infeed and transferred to the Feed Chain. The carton is carried through the vertically fed web of film and inserted into a “pocket” of the Turret. The film on the leading edge of the carton is tucked by a stationary Turret Finger mounted to each side of the turret pocket.

The turret proceeds to index forward to a position where the film is folded and heat sealed across the trailing panel of the carton. After reaching 180 degrees of rotation, the carton is pulled from the turret and through the Side Folding and Heat Sealing section by a lugged Discharge Chain, completing the envelope folds on the side panels of the carton and exits the machine.

Film is cut from the film roll by a Rotary Knife cutting against a Stationary Knife. Immediately after the carton has engaged the film, both are trapped between bottom and top plates for positive film positioning.

Options include tear strip applicators for all tape types and widths, automat infeed and conveyors, servo-controlled printed film registration and code marking.
