With machine safety regulations and technologies on the move, ELAU has taken an active role in safety education in recent years. For 2007, ELAU recently hosted a PMMI Risk Assessment workshop at its North American Technical Center outside Chicago, and is a sponsor of the annual July PMMI Safety Conference, also in the Chicago area.

One of ELAU’s innovations of recent years was “inverter enable,” which enables a controlled, power-on stop of the servo drives without the harsh, potentially damaging act of abruptly shutting off all power to the machine. With European and U.S. safety regulations becoming harmonized, North America can now make use of such improved technologies.

The next major introduction for ELAU equipment will be safety option modules for the new PacDrive iSH Intelligent Servo Modules. More information is expected at PACK EXPO in the fall.
