How can software be any more important than it already is to packaging machinery automation?
In an interview with Packaging Automation, Dr. Thomas Cord, CEO of packaging automation specialist ELAU, explains how software will become more sophisticated, actually simplifying the task of developing packaging machinery automation programming.
In a few years, machine developers and maintainers won’t be coding in the IEC languages, they’ll be working one level above, describing the behavior of the different parts of the machine.
This will be more a process-related language than the computer languages with which we define processes today. In this environment of packaging technology software modules, the IEC code will be generated automatically.
The good news is that the foundation for such software already exists in the form of IEC-conforming software modules and best practices.
